The purple RM2 note issued in February 1996 depicts the “Wawasan 2020” theme which reflects Malaysia’s economic development and achievement. Modern telecommunication is selected as the motif for the RM2 denomination.
The obverse of the RM2 note retains the dominant intaglio portrait of the First Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong and a distinctive anticopy square in the centre of the note. On the reverse, the predominant design emphasizes telecommunications represented by the Kuala Lumpur Tower and a satellite in orbit. The security features in the note include a rainbow security thread with RM2 text, a three-dimensional watermark portrait, a printed and embossed anticopy key square as well as coloured security fibres in the paper.
