The ‘SHIP’ series currency notes

The $2 note is the first banknote of the denomination released by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore. It was released on 28 January 1991. This note is legal tender and is part of the Ship series.

There are nine denominations in the ‘Ship’ series Singapore currency notes-$1, $2, $5, $10, $50, $100, $500, $1000 and $10 000.

The series pays tribute to the contribution of merchant shipping to the development of Singapore as an entrepot trading centre.

The pictorial and aesthetic themes of this series are based on maritime vessels and modern development of Singapore. The vignettes on the front of the Ship series notes depict vessels which plied the waters of Singapore from historic times to the present day.
